Wellington Chinese Language School (WCLS) is a community-based school specialising in teaching Mandarin listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Established in 1972, the school has grown steadily and now offers 29 classes with 505 students as of 2019. We provide courses for all proficiency levels, catering to learners aged four and above, including adults. All classes are currently held on Sundays at Victoria University of Wellington’s Kelburn Parade campus, taught by qualified native Mandarin-speaking teachers.
We welcome both heritage learners and anyone interested in Chinese language and culture. Beyond language instruction, students can participate in cultural activities such as dance troupes, music ensembles, and workshops on calligraphy, traditional painting, chess, and paper-cutting.Parents may also join Tai Chi sessions led by experienced instructors while their children attend classes.
